Hello, I'm Madeleine.

I'm an artist and illustrator working mainly in pen and print. I draw inspiration from the natural world around me and in documentaries.

Practice

I keep a sketchbook with me daily as I find I capture more of a place by drawing it than by photographing it. Therefore, most of my work begins in my sketchbook.

Background

I studied Fine Art at the University of Plymouth before moving to Arts University Plymouth to study Painting, Drawing and Printmaking. This move enabled me to focus on my love of printmaking. My studies overlapped with the pandemic, and after graduating my practice paused for a few years. Until, a friend invited me to a sketching workshop in Cambridge where visiting the zoology museum sparked my enthusiasm for drawing once more.

Over the past year I've built a consistent drawing practice, and what began as private sketchbook pages has become a growing body of commissioned and printed work.
